ONLINE EVENT (ZOOM)
Three days of conversation, learning and action, led by Story Holders
This is a meeting point for the people doing the work — organisers, artists, educators, health workers, campaigners, and the people who fund, commission and publish their Stories. Together we’ll look at what ethical Story Telling actually asks of us: in philanthropy, in the media, in campaigns, in politics, in classrooms, and in the spaces where silence is enforced rather than chosen.
Sessions are shaped by the people leading them. A provocation through poetry. A beginner’s lesson in Arabic. A shared meal. A session on colonialism in branding, marketing and design. A conversation about navigating the not-for-profit industrial complex. Nothing has been squeezed into a single template, because telling people how to share what they know is its own kind of extraction.
Why this is not a conference
This is a deliberate alternative to the conference format. There is no keynote speaker, and no sponsor who influences what we can and cannot talk about, or who gets a space to speak. We have supporters and partners who believe in the need for this meeting point not buyers of influence.
Contributors decide what they share, how long they take, and what matters most to them. Every session is followed by a space to reflect and plan how you will act on what you heard, so the learning leaves the room with you.
The Gathering is designed to show ethical Story Telling in practice, not just talk about it. People are recognised for their time, in control of how their contribution is shared and recorded, and treated as the authority on their own Stories.
How the money works
Every ticket is split three ways: 40% to contributors, 40% to Our Race, 20% to mutual aid.
Contributors are paid for their expertise, because lived experience is expertise and resourcing Story Holders is an obligation, not a courtesy. Any contributor who chooses not to be paid can redirect their share to the contributor pool or to mutual aid.
Recording policy
Recording is optional, and the choice belongs to each contributor not to us. They decide whether their session is recorded at all, and if it is, whether it’s shared afterwards or kept for their own reference.
The Reflect, Share and Act segments are never recorded. Honest reflection needs a room where nothing is being captured.
Reflect, share act
Each session is followed by a short, unrecorded "Reflect, share and act" segment, where participants talk through how they'll put the ideas discussed into practice in their own work or lives.
The in-person close
We finish together on Friday in person, off-screen, no agenda.
Details released soon.
